Introduction to Exceptionalities

This course will provide students with an overview of the special education process in today’s public schools. The special education process involves working effectively with school personnel and parents and acquiring a general knowledge of various disabilities and needs of students. A comprehensive examination of inclusion and its effects on the classroom environment will be covered. This course will provide teachers and paraprofessionals with the basic knowledge to begin to successfully meet the needs of a variety of students in the classroom. This course requires 25 hours of field observation in a K-12 educational setting.  This course will also provide a foundation for further courses in the area of special education. *Students will be required to complete a total of 50 hours of field observation/experience prior to graduation.  Fall/Summer semesters
